How to prepare for your 1st bikini wax

How to prepare for your very first bikini wax

We promise that the little bit of pain is worth it! Throw away your razors for the summer. The maintenance for a bikini wax is only required once every 4-6 weeks. Follow these tips to ensure you get the most out of your appointment.

1. Let the hair grow out first

Let your hair grow out 2 to 3 weeks (about a quarter of an inch) before going in for waxing. If the wax cannot grab onto the hairs, it wont work. Growing out the hair can be annoying, but the better you keep up with your waxing routine, the less it must grow out each time.

2. Yes, it is going to be uncomfortable

There is no sugar coating here, waxing can be painful. Our estheticians are trained to mitigate the pain. Sometimes booking your appointment for one week after your menstrual cycle can help as your pain threshold tends to be at its highest. Our wax is mixed with titanium dioxide (which acts as an anti-inflammatory) spreads thinly and is strong enough to remove the toughest hair immediately with only mild discomfort and no irritation.

3. Stay out of the sun

It’s important to stay out of the sun 24 hours before and 24 hours after your appointment. I'm sure it does not need to be said about how painful it is going to be if your bikini area is sunburnt!

4. Don’t apply moisturizer after showering.

You want your skin clean and dry for your appointment. Any left-over moisturizer or oil on the skin can work against you. You can use a little bit of baby powder to help prevent sweating in the area before your appointment.

5. Our estheticians have seen it all

Please don’t worry, you are in the best of hands when you visit Eco Spa Whistler. Our team is well trained and we are here to make your appointment an enjoyable experience. If you prefer to just sit back and close your eyes, please do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.

6. Wear something loose and comfortable

You may feel a little sore and irritated down there, so skip on those tight skinny jeans and opt for some sweat pants for after your appointment. Feel free to rock the tight pants, within 30 minutes to 1 hour you should be good to go.

7. Exfoliate the bikini area

Exfoliating the bikini area, a few hours before your appointment can help a lot. Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells, and excess skin cells can cause ingrown hairs.

8. Schedule your exercise before the appointment or take a rest day all together.

Working out after a waxing appointment can cause uncomfortable chaffing and lots of sweat. This could lead to making the area irritated, which can lead to an infection. Just be sure to grab a shower and follow all the tips we have given you today.

Remember that you are in the best of hands with our team of estheticians. You will be given a pair of disposable underwear during your appointment. Be sure to tell your esthetician how much and what hair you would like waxed.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us before your appointment.

50 and over skin care tips.

As we age and our skin loses its fat and elasticity in our face, gravity starts to pull a little harder, so we must step up our skin care game! Regardless of whether you have a skin care regimen, or are just about to start, use these tips for beautiful and glowing skin.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb

Sun Protection

You should be protecting your face with more than just sunscreen. A wide brim hat and big sunglasses will not only call on your inner Audrey Hepburn and look flawless, but you will be blocking out harmful UV rays. Be sure to use a chemical free sunscreen. Speak with your esthetician, she can help choose one of our organic, mineral based sunscreens we carry at the spa.

Including a cleanser to your routine

A gentle cleanser can help create a clean canvass, allowing your moisturizers to penetrate more effectively.

Keep Moisturized

Yes, we are pointing out the obvious, but do you really know why it is so pressed upon for a good 50 and over skin care regimen? As we age, the skin barrier has become weaker and does not replace lipids as easily. This can lead to further damage, and unfortunately wrinkles. Some tips from keeping face from drying out:
• Never use hot water on your face or extended periods in the shower. Use only lukewarm and rinse with cold water. • Use a cream tailored to your skin. Talk to your aesthetician and see what she recommends for your skin type. • Exfoliate, at least twice a week. Rejuvenate your cells with a body scrub. Be sure to always finish with a hydrating body moisturizer.

Schedule a monthly microdermabrasion facial

Looking for some immediate results? Book our 30 min micro-dermabrasion facial to diminish appearance of wrinkles, blemishes, age spots and enlarged pores. The Ultrasound stimulates collagen production to leave your skin plumped and renewed. A scheduled appointment every month will give your skin the extra boost it needs.

Less is more

Adding to much eye makeup can magnify crow’s feet. You want to accentuate, not hide your beautiful features. Choose neutral shades like beiges and earth tones. Makeup is about celebrating your best features, not hiding them.

This is for the ladies looking to have that fuller eyebrow look. Micro blading is a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo. Achieve a flawless look, each morning without even having to get out of bed! Speak with one of our estheticians about our techniques and book an appointment online.

Update how you do your makeup.

What an amazing age we live in! There are thousands of high quality how to/tutorial style videos on makeup. Take advantage of the content on YouTube and find a look that you like. You can find all kinds of videos, like the one below. These videos are real, older woman, who are giving you step by step instructions.

Just as we say it’s important to come in for monthly facials, so is having a routine that includes exfoliation. As we get older our cell regeneration slows down. This can mean that your body slows down when getting rid of old skin cells and generating new ones. If old skin cells pile up on the surface, it can lead to dry, dull and rough looking skin. An excess of dead skin cells can lead to clogged pores and worse, acne. I’m sure we assume that our days of acne are well behind us!

Use a barrier boosting cream

As we age, our estrogen production slows, and as it slows so does our skins ability to protect itself. The skin has a harder time maintain hydration or produce strong collagen. When older skin suffers from a loss of natural lipids (fatty acids) it can contribute to dehydration and inflammation. To help repair your depleted skin, use a cream rich in skin’s own lipids, like (insert ECOCHIC SPA cream here.)

The best place to start is to speak with our estheticians on the best skin care regime that is tailored specifically to your needs. Be sure to have a look at what services we offer and book an appointment here.

Sun Damage Prevention Tips

Exposure to the sun is inevitable. But you can take precautions and protect you and your loved ones from sun damage. Protect your skin with natural sunscreens from Coola and follow these tips.

Generously apply a water-resistant sunscreen with minimum SPF 15 and UVA/UVB broad-spectrum protection to any parts of your body that are exposed to the sun each day. Reapply every 2 hours if you're in direct sun. A sufficient amount for your entire body is 1 ounce, or about 2 tablespoons.

Don't forget those kissable lips, be sure to use a lip balm that's SPF 15 or higher.

Cover up! Use a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, long sleeved shirt or pants. Don't be shy, fashion comes second here.

Seek shade between 10AM and 4PM, when the sun's burning rays are strongest. And don't worry, no one will think you're a wimp.

Use extra caution near the water, sand and snow as they can reflect and strengthen the sun's rays. Can you say double ouch?

You may claim the Vitamin D defense when sunbathing. But you can still get Vitamin D safely through diet and supplements without putting your skin at risk.

Keep newborns out of the sun. Sunscreens should only be used on babies over the age of 6 months.

Examine your skin from head to toe every month and see your physician annually for a professional skin exam. Early detection is best.

COOLA offers sun protection for a range of skin types and lifestyles; their products are uniquely formulated for different parts of the body - from the sensitive nature of FACE and LIPLUX, to the versatile BODY, and the demands of SPORT.

Green, yet still luxurious, each of COOLA's high performance products protect and nourish the skin with vitamins and age-defying antioxidants, while remaining free of parabens, paba, petroleum and phthalates.
